The issues raised in the online community that there are some hotels decided to put “Non-Halal Lift” stickers in one of their lift with the intention to notify the public of the function of the signed lift, a lift that used to transfer haram things.

Hotels or other establishments are not required to display the “non-halal lift” sign under the Malaysian Halal Certification Procedure Manual (Domestic) 2020 or the Malaysian Halal Management System 2020.

However, according to the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (Jakim), hotels or other establishments are free to build up any suitable system in compliance with the guidelines established to uphold the integrity of Malaysia’s Halal Certification.

Jakim would like to bring up a media story about a hotel in Kuala Lumpur that marked one of its elevators as a “non-halal lift” to transport perishable non-halal products.

Jakim said in a statement today, “In the report, it is also mentioned that the direction for the placement of the sign was a regulation prescribed by Jakim.

It was previously reported that a hotel’s administration said the building had posted a “non-halal lift” sticker in the elevator to transport non-halal and perishable commodities. The hotel had stated that it was necessary for halal certification.

This was in reaction to a social media post by attorney Siti Kasim, who posted a picture of a “non-halal lift” and questioned its justification.
