Oriental Kopi Now HalalCertified with HQC’s Support
KUALA LUMPUR, June 14 – Popular coffee shop Oriental Kopi has officially received halal certification from JAKIM (Department of Islamic Development Malaysia). This is a big achievement for the company. Managing Director Datuk Calvin Chan said it was a meaningful moment after a tough journey.

“We faced many challenges, and while it seems easy to say, the process was difficult. From preparing documents to making sure daily operations followed halal standards, it was not easy,” he shared.
To get the certification, Oriental Kopi had to follow strict food safety and cleanliness rules. They also had to respect religious and cultural values related to halal. The certification was given at a ceremony at their Suria KLCC branch.
HQC Commerce Sdn Bhd, an expert in halal management, helped Oriental Kopi through the halal certification process. Their guidance made sure the company met all JAKIM requirements.
At the ceremony, HQC Commerce’s CEO, Dato’ Khairul Shahril Hamzah, and COO, Muhamad Khairi Kamarudin, were there to celebrate alongside Deputy Economy Minister Datuk Hanifah Hajar Taib and Tengku Hishammuddin Zaizi.
Now that Oriental Kopi is halal-certified, they plan to open 15 new branches across Malaysia in the next three years. New locations include Gurney Plaza (Penang), Viva City Mall (Sarawak), and their first overseas branch in Singapore.
They have also started exporting their white coffee to Hong Kong and hope to introduce more products worldwide. In addition, Oriental Kopi is now in the process of getting listed on Bursa Malaysia, which will further boost its growth and expansion. With this milestone, the company aims to open more outlets nationwide and strengthen its presence in the F&B industry.
Getting halal certification is an important step for F&B businesses. It ensures they meet high standards and can serve Muslim customers. With help from HQC Commerce, more businesses can go through the halal process and expand in Malaysia and beyond.
